File extension pcr information

File extension PCR identifies a PCMark Benchmark File that belongs to the PCMark Benchmarking software developed by Futuremark Corp. The PCMark software consists of a series of benchmarking tools that are specifically made to test the performance of the computer by taking a hardware analysis snapshot of the computer system. This includes testing the performance of the CPU and read and write speeds of the RAM and hard drives. An example of one of the software in the PCMark series is PCMark04 which has been discontinued. This benchmark software is application based.
PCMark04, which has file extension PCR, uses segments of actual applications as opposed to including applications that are very large or using codes that are specifically created. For this reason, it is a smaller installation that reports highly accurate results. In addition it uses public domain applications which have a source code that can be freely examined by users. This is done as much as possible. The workload of the PCMark04 includes a test suite and several component test suites and is specifically made to stress a PC in the same way as a typical home usage.
